Chinese Canadian Museum

The Chinese Canadian Museum has found its permanent home within the historic Wing Sang Building, officially opening its doors to the public on July 1, 2023. Originally constructed in 1889 by Chinese merchant Yip Sang for his business, the “Wing Sang Company,” this building stands as the oldest structure in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Over the years, the Wing Sang Building underwent expansions in 1902 and 1912, accommodating Yip Sang’s growing family, which included three wives and 23 children. In Chinese, “Wing Sang” translates to “everlasting,” symbolizing an optimistic desire for sustained prosperity and growth. This architectural landmark serves as a tangible representation and tribute to Yip Sang’s remarkable life journey and enduring impact. The Chinese Canadian Museum feels privileged to be the guardian of this significant heritage site. Discover more about Yip Sang’s life and the compelling stories of the Yip family by paying a visit to the Chinese Canadian Museum.
